Red rattan is a hard and durable material, so much so that it's soaked in water for 24 hours to soften it. It's said to be the most durable of the approximately 300 types of rattan.
Being a natural material, the thickness of each strand varies. The color of each strand is also different. Some may be entirely dark, or have an orange or reddish tint, or even have stain-like patterns in places. A characteristic feature is that the color changes beautifully over time.
