ebagos baskets are made from a strong rattan called red rattan (beni-tou).
Red rattan is such a hard and durable material that it needs to be soaked in water for 24 hours to soften it. It is said to be the strongest among the approximately 300 types of rattan.
As it is a natural material, the thickness varies. Each strand also has a different color. It can be generally darkened, or have orange or reddish tones, and sometimes has stain-like patterns in parts. Another characteristic is that its color changes beautifully over time.
