Caqu, written “砂空” in kanji, debuted in 2006.
The name derives from “砂” (sand), crushed by the stonewash that symbolizes washing, and “空” (sky), the indigo blue.
The designer is Naoki Tsurumaru, representative of Tandem.
He spent 11 years in the design and production departments of a major jeans manufacturer, and in his first year he lived in the factory and gained enough experience to repair sewing machines.
Tsurumaru is a manufacturing specialist who not only designs but also stands on the sales floor himself, makes patterns, manages factories and provides sewing guidance.
Although it is extremely slim, straight vintage denim, it has stretch,
so it offers a comfortable fit that goes against the vintage look.
The brand pursues natural fading, as if worn for three years straight from rigid denim.
The distinctive whisker fading is unevenly finished on the front, and on the rear it extends to the back pockets, replicating the fading of truly well-worn jeans.
An item that is easy to work into both modern and vintage-inspired fashion.
