Ebagos baskets are made from a durable rattan called "red rattan" (benitou).
Red rattan is so hard and durable that it requires soaking in water for 24 hours to soften it. It is said to be the strongest among the approximately 300 types of rattan.
Since it's a natural material, the thickness varies. The color also differs for each strand. It may be darkened overall, or have an orange or reddish tint, and sometimes contain spot-like patterns. Another characteristic is that as time passes, the outer skin peels off and the color changes to a beautiful shade.
